Marysville History:

Marysville California was named after a women Mary Murphy Covillaud, one of the surviving members of the Donner Party. It was Mary's husband Charles Covillaud who discovered riches in the gold fields in 1848. The ranch they established was a stopping point for river boats from Sacramento and San Francisco that carried miners on their way to the digging grounds. During the Gold Rush Marysville was one of the largest cities in California. Also during this time, $10 million in gold was shipped from the banks in Marysville CA to the U.S. mint in San Francisco. Today, people still mine for gold in the foothills.
